Meals on Wheels Volunteer – Julie Jorgenson

“As I walk up 4 flights of stairs, I know I will see a smile on Bob’s (not his real name) face as I deliver his hot meal. Bob is in a wheelchair and lives in a building with no elevator. I often wonder how he gets in and out of his building. But, I definitely know that I’m making a difference in providing Bob this service.”

Julie has been delivering Meals on Wheels (MOW) for 26 years! One of the things that keeps Julie coming back are the smiles on the faces of the people she delivers hot, nutritious meals to. “I enjoy knowing that I’m helping them out.”

One of Julie’s favorite stories is about Cleo, a senior who had become a friend over the years. Knowing that Cleo had little family or friends and rarely got out, Julie and David, their company’s MOW Team Leader, decided to do something special. As they delivered the meal and completed their normal “wellness check,” they surprised Cleo with a birthday cake. She was so happy that someone had remembered her birthday. Seeing the smile of Bob and the joy of Cleo, “makes me appreciate the importance of being kind to others.”

The work of Julie and others provide support to many seniors that allows them to stay independent.

If you would like to learn more about delivering meals and smiles, contact Melanie LaPointe, Volunteer Coordinator at 612-870-1125, x128 or mlapointe@cesmn.org.

Thanks to our many volunteers who make this possible!

And, thanks to Julie for 26 years!
