Food Shelf Programs
CES prepare food boxes each month with a variety of staple items as well as some ethnically specific, culturally acceptable food items. We provide outreach through two programs, our weekly East African Food Distribution (which now extends to all East Africans) and our Home Delivery Program, as well as through our weekly Free Food Distribution.
In order to qualify, the total household income must be no more than twice the federal poverty level. Clients are screened by the Outreach Program Assistant. Once qualified, East African guests may come to the food shelf once a month on Thursday mornings. CES has secured a part-time staff person as well as a volunteer to help with interpreting and translation.
- Each food box contains basic food staples such as flour, sugar and oil, as well as tomato products, tuna, pasta, etc.
- Depending on family size, CES also provides a grocery bag of similar staple foods.
- As part of our Client Choice Program, offered to all food shelf clients, guests may also select from tables of fresh fruits and vegetables, meats, bread, milk and eggs.
- Most households receive more than 50 pounds per month.
