Food Shelf Programs
The Neighborhood Food Shelf is open to residents in need of supplemental food. Guests can visit the food shelf once a month.
There is a simple intake for first time guests, in which we ask for an ID and a current address, as well as a form of ID for others in the household that share meals.
Hours of Operation: Monday – Thursday
- Doors open at 10:30am to receive a number for each day
- Registration begins at 12:30pm
- Food shelf operates from 1:00pm – 4:00pm
Food Shelf guests meet with an advocate, who will discuss needs for food or other services, making referrals to other organizations as appropriate. The advocate will also help them shop and choose groceries from the food shelf, which is set up like a corner grocery store. CES has been working to increase the distribution of fresh and frozen foods, including meat, fish, milk, bread, eggs and fresh produce. We also focus on culturally specific foods for our diverse neighbors.
Each month, CES distributes about 23 tons of food through all of the CES food distributions. This food is donated by congregations, organizations, foundations, partner food banks and individuals or has been purchased from local food banks, often at a reduced rate.
